Cleveland Police is opening its doors to new police officer recruits
which will allow the right applicant the opportunity to take on a unique
job which will prove both challenging and rewarding.
From 2pm on Friday 16th May applicants will be able to log onto Cleveland Police website and be guided through the application process. The first 500 candidates will be processed and the best applicants who demonstrate that they have the potential to become fully effective in the role will be shortlisted and put forward for assessment.
People who complete the application and assessment centre stage successfully will then be brought into Police Headquarters for final interview. Those successful at this stage will then be required to meet the national fitness, medical and vetting criteria prior to their appointment.
To assist potential applicants, the Deputy Chief Constable Iain Spittal and Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger will be hosting a web chat on Thursday 15th May between 6pm and 7pm to answer any questions. On Twitter use #CPRecruit to join the chat.
Deputy Chief Constable Iain Spittal said: “This is a real milestone for our Force. The last time we recruited was in the financial year 2008/9 and with all the financial challenges we have faced recently it is a significant step for the growth and development of the Force.
“Our selection process is designed to identify the best applicants who demonstrate that they have the capacity to take on this robust and challenging role. Those who complete the selection process will be promised a very rewarding career full of interesting and new experiences.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger added: “Our officer establishment by March 2015 should be 1333. We are looking to take on up to 20 new recruits with this intake, and there may be the possibility of further recruitment opportunities to bring us to this figure by the end of the financial year.
“These new recruits will bring with them a fresh approach and new ideas which can be carried forward by the Force. This is an opportunity we haven’t had in this Force for some time and I am delighted we are now in a position to take on new officers.
“High on the agenda whenever I attend community meetings is the issue of police officer numbers and thankfully we are now in a position to create new opportunities for the people of Teesside.”
